Heads up, Instagram users, because another new feature is now rolling out.
Instagram will now show you when your friends were last using the Instagram app. If you go to your direct messages screen, you’ll see an “Active ___ ago” next to each person’s account.
If you’d prefer that people not know when you’re using Instagram, you can disable this feature by going into Options and scrolling down to “Show Activity Status”. If you disable the feature, though, you won’t be able to see the activity status of other people.
This activity status feature appears to have quietly rolled out recently. It could come in handy when you want to message a friend or business and see if they’ve used the app recently, but it’s also nice that Instagram gives you a way to opt out of the feature if you’d prefer your friends and people you message with know when you’re using the app.
